Lettuce Seeds - Charita (Pils) |
|
Lettuce 'Charita' is a curly leaved variety that not only looks good but has crisp tasty green foliage, and produces lettuce on a year round basis.
It is not totally hardy and should be grown under protection in a greenhouse either in grow bags or pots when autumn sowing. It will be ready to harvest in April. Spring sowings will be ready to harvest 8 weeks from sowings.

Site:
|
Prefers well-drained, moist rich site. Autumn sowings in greenhouse / polytunnels in grow bags or containers or the soil.

Sow:
|
Spring sowings: Feb to July.
Autumn sowings: Aug-Oct.

How:
|
Sow thinly in pots or in a prepared seed bed in rows 25cm apart and lightly cover with fine soil. Seedlings appear 7-14 days. Thin to about 15cm apart when large enough. Water in carefully with a fine hose. For continuous crops sow every 2-3 weeks. Autumn Sowings should be sown in containers and thinned or transplanted into larger pots when seedlings are large enough.

Care:
|
Keep moist especially during dry weather, weed free and protect early sowings with a cloche. Always water in the morning or mid-day as watering in the evening will increase the risk of disease and protect with fleece in very cold weather.

Spring sowings May to August. If given added protection it is possible to produce lettuce all year round. |
