French Bean 'Blue Lake Climbing' produces a heavy yield of thin tasty stringless pods over a long period.
The mid-green coloured pods are best picked when 10-12cm long & used fresh. The pods will snap with a crack when picked fresh not like the shop bought ones that have lost their freshness and become 'bendy'. The pods contain a white bean 'haricot' that can be dried and used in stews. Do not eat the pods raw as they contain harmful toxins, these are killed on cooking.
It grows to about 2m but we stop ours once they reach the top of our 1.8m canes by 'pinching out' the top growth. Keep picking the pods to encourage more to grow.
French bean 'Blue Lake Climbing' produces pretty creamy yellow/white flowers that look lovely mixed with a purple sweet pea like ‘Blue Velvet’.
Approx 100 seeds per pack.
