Purple Sprouting Broccoli 'Santee' F1 produces spears from June through to November. It does not require exposure to cold as some of the later varieties do and consequently it will crop in the same year it is planted.
It crops very early and cropping can be extended by treating as a ‘cut & come again’ crop ie harvesting regularly. It is not as hardy as the later varieties so will struggle in cold winters.
Purple Sprouting Broccoli 'Santee F1' tastes lovely and rates up there with fresh asparagus for us. We steam it & then make Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s quick hollandaise recipe gorgeous!!
Purple Sprouting Broccoli is not readily available in the supermarkets, production costs are high as the spears have to be hand harvested and therefore it is expensive to buy. By growing your own not only will it be cheaper but the spears will be nice & fresh and crisp not that springy bendy stem you get when spears has been left too long on the shelf.
Approx 25 seeds per pack.
